Check-ins arrive late
I keep getting a “💗 Wellness check needed” notification on my phone. It seems the check-in is only sent when I open the app.
My family got a “Caution” alert saying “Today's scheduled wellness check has not been received yet. Please check in person.”
To save battery, Android slows down or stops apps you don't use often. Anbu wakes up briefly once a day at the set time to send your check-in, so if this restriction applies, it misses that moment and nothing is sent until you use your phone again.
If no check-in arrives within two hours past the set time, your family receives the alert above. This can happen even when the sender is perfectly fine and only the delivery was delayed.
On the sender's phone, open the app and look near the top for a yellow notice saying “Disable battery usage restrictions”. Tapping it goes straight to the settings screen, and once you lift the restriction the notice disappears.
Why is this the only notice in yellow?
It means check-ins are not stopped altogether — they may just be delayed. Notices shown in red mean a feature is actually blocked.

Disable Battery Usage Restriction
When your phone enters power-saving mode, wellness check signals may reach your guardian late or be missed.
After tapping [Open Settings] below, set "Battery" → "Unrestricted". This ensures wellness checks are delivered reliably at the scheduled time every day.

Step count isn't showing
My family member's step count isn't showing. The “You walked N steps today” notification never arrives.
Along with the check-in signal, Anbu sends that day's step count so family can see how much they moved. If the step permission is off on the sender's phone, the check-in still goes through, but the step count is left out.
On that phone, open the app and look below the safety code for a red notice saying “Activity permission is denied. Tap here to allow.”. Tapping it asks for the permission again.
Do you look at anything besides steps?
Only the step count is sent. We do not check where you have been or which apps you have used.
Tapping the red notice brings up Android's own permission request. Allowing it there is all you need.
However, if you have already declined several times, Android stops showing that request. The window below appears instead.

An emergency request came without a location
I received an emergency request, but there is no [🗺️ View location] button on the alert.
Location permission is required to send the current location along when the emergency button is pressed. Without it, the emergency alert still reaches everyone in the family, but where they are does not go with it.
On the sender's phone, open the app and look below the [I need help] button for a red notice. Tapping it asks for the permission again.
Are you tracking my location all the time?
No. We collect no location at all under normal circumstances. Only when [I need help] is pressed do we take a single reading at that moment and pass it to family, and that information is erased after a day.

Location Permission Required
Tap 'Permissions' → 'Location', then select 'Allow only while using the app'.
Find and tap 'Anbu', then under 'Location' select 'While Using the App'.
A window appears every time I open the app
Every time I open the app, a window saying “Please turn off Auto Permission Removal” appears.
Android has a feature that removes permissions from apps you haven't opened in a long time. Anbu is an app that works without you opening the screen, which actually makes it a likely target — and if the permissions go away, check-ins quietly stop.
Tap [Open Settings] and turn it off once, and this window will no longer appear.
It shows up every time. Can I just tap [Later]?
It will keep appearing every time you open the app until you turn the setting off. Because a stopped check-in is hard to notice, we keep reminding you.
I also keep an eye on my family's check-ins, but I never see this window.
If you are also watching over family, you open the app often to check alerts, so you rarely end up in a situation where permissions get removed automatically. That is why this window is not shown to you.
Anything else
I tapped the notice, but the settings screen didn't open properly.
The name and location of the settings screen differ slightly by manufacturer. Please open your Settings app, find Anbu, and check the permissions section directly.
